GearScout is a comparison tool for secondhand gym equipment listings — it links out to where items are actually sold rather than selling anything itself. This page explains what information GearScout collects when you use the site, why, and how to control it.
What we collect
Browsing the site — searching, filtering, viewing listings — doesn't require an account and isn't tied to your identity. If you create an account, we collect:
- Your email address, to identify your account and sign you in.
- Any saved searches you create (your filters and alert threshold) and any listings you choose to watch for price drops.
- If you purchase GearScout Plus: payment is handled entirely by Stripe — we never see or store your card details. We keep a record of the transaction itself (amount, currency, and Stripe's reference IDs for it) so we can support you if something goes wrong with a purchase.
Standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) are generated by our hosting provider as part of normal operation, the same as any website.
What we use it for
- Keeping you signed in and showing your saved searches/watches.
- Sending the emails you've asked for — a daily digest when a saved search matches a new listing, or when a watched listing's price drops. We don't send anything else.
- Granting access to GearScout Plus after a successful payment.
We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for anything beyond running the features described above.
Cookies
- Essential: a session cookie that keeps you signed in. The site can't know you're logged in without it.
- Advertising: GearScout shows ads served by Google AdSense, which may set cookies to deliver and personalize ads and measure their performance. If you're in the UK or EEA, you'll be asked to consent before any personalized-ad cookie is set. You can control how Google uses this data, or opt out of personalization entirely, at adssettings.google.com.
We don't use any analytics or tracking cookies of our own.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run GearScout, each only for the specific job below — none of them get anything beyond what they need to do that job:
- Supabase — hosts our database and handles account sign-in.
- Stripe — processes GearScout Plus payments. Your payment details go directly to Stripe, never through our servers.
- Resend — delivers the alert emails you sign up for.
- eBay Partner Network — when you click through to a listing on eBay, that click is tracked via eBay's affiliate program (this is how GearScout earns a commission at no extra cost to you). See eBay's privacy notice for what happens once you're on their site.
- Google AdSense — serves the ads shown on the site.
- Anthropic (Claude) — reads listing titles, descriptions, and prices to generate the deal-score reasoning you see on each card. It only ever processes listing data, never anything about you or your account.
- Vercel — hosts the website itself.
Your data, your control
You can delete any saved search or watched listing yourself at any time from the saved searches page. To access, correct, or fully delete your account and everything tied to it, email us — see Contact below. Deleting your account removes your profile, saved searches, watched listings, and alert history; it doesn't affect transaction records Stripe is legally required to keep for its own compliance purposes.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or how we use it, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
